Office 2016 Mac Junk Email

Outlook 2016 for Mac doesn’t provide any client-side junk mail protection for any kind of an account (Exchange, POP, or IMAP). Instead, it only relies on the mail server to perform all junk mail filtering. Email messages are not scanned client-side by Outlook 2016 for Mac to determine whether they are junk mail. Microsoft Outlook comes with a junk mail filter that files junk emails in the Junk Email folder. However, good messages can be mistakenly marked as spam. It's simple to review the spam folder and recover the missing messages to the Inbox. The Junk Email Reporting Add-in for Microsoft Outlook allows users to submit false positives (good email marked as spam), false negatives (bad email allowed) and phishing messages to Microsoft. If your organization doesn't use Exchange Online Protection (for example, on-premises Exchange or email services other than Exchange Online), your junk. If you use Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 and junk email filtering doesn't seem to be working, go to Tools, Options, Junk Email options and verify that your address is not on the Safe Sender or Safe Recipient list. If you have more than one account configured in Outlook 2010 and newer, each account will have it's own junk email settings.

In a new blog post today, Microsoft’s Tastia Ebacher explained how Microsoft is handling junk mail on Outlook 2016 for the Mac. As expected, Outlook 2016 for Mac will come with a handful of new features compared to Outlook 2011 for Mac. The upcoming Outlook update relies on server-side filtering for junk mail, rather than relying on client-side filtering. Microsoft expects server-side filtering to cut down on your junk mail, and hopefully Outlook 2016 for Mac will improve junk mail filtering.
